Samsung is getting meraksasa in the global smartphone market. According to recent data from IDC, the number of smart phones shipped the Korean company in the second quarter of this year the number two times larger than Apple.
As reported by Mashable, with the amount of 72.4 million units, Samsung also managed to ship more smartphones than other brands on the list of top five world producers of smart phones, namely Apple, LG, Lenovo, and ZTE, even when their shipment numbers combined.
Smart phone shipment numbers of Apple accounted for 31.2 million units, while LG, Lenovo, and ZTE, each ship carrying 12.1 million, 11.3 million and 10.1 million smart phones.
Despite an increase in the number of smart phones shipped, Apple and Samsung's market share actually declined over the same quarter last year. Samsung's market share fell from 32.2 percent to 30.4 percent, while Apple from 16.6 percent to 13.1 percent.
As for LG, Lenovo, and ZTE posted an increase both in terms of market share year over year, and the number of units shipped.
The smart phone market as a whole rose by 52.3 percent compared to last year. The number of devices shipped in the second quarter of this year reached 237.9 million units.
