Because the demand is not so exciting, Microsoft decided to slash the price of Surface. Discount applied at 30% for the tablet version of Windows Surface RT.
Surface RT is now priced at a starting price of USD 349. This price is derived from the previous USD 499. This applies to Surface without cover that also functions as a keyboard. Meanwhile, Surface with a keyboard cover price to $ 449 from the previous $ 599.
Microsoft's first tablet computer does not get a rousing response among consumers both in the home and corporate users. IDC data reveals, since its debut in October 2012, Surface only sold 900 thousand units in each of the first quarter.
Reported by Bloomberg, on Monday (07/15/2013), Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer encouraged the company to increase its sales for the hardware segment. This needs to be done to cope with declining demand for Windows software amid declining sales of personal computers globally.
Previously, Surface touted as a great product. Surface appears based on the idea of combining the functions of a better tablet, but also has features such as on a PC.
Microsoft founder Bill Gates even called it as important and innovation is something huge launch for Microsoft.
"This OS brings to the world of Windows touch-screen, low-power devices, really giving the best of the experience of using the tablet and PC. I think this is a big step," he said at the time.
